FROM WALT DISNEY, NO BUSINESS IDEA IS SMALL
When I was young, I used to have a different dimension of the meaning of the words big and small. But then I wasn’t wrong anyway, I was comparing a certain man who owned a very old pick up car with those who walked or perhaps used the bicycle. Finally the day came when I travelled from home to a nearby town, now I compared the man who owned a “small” shop and the one who owned a supermarket in a “bigger” town twelve kilometers away. I believe that was your way of seeing things at the tender age in your life, if you didn’t have such comparisons, then you must have been the smartest of all at that time. Today I can say that the man who had a small shop now owns a chain store with a two-storey building and 3 trucks. The more I grew, the more my way of seeing small and big changed. In business mostly, the difference between small and big is just time. These words remind me of one of my lectures who told me that the only difference between me and him is time, that, soon or later I will be driving too and I find it quite applicable widely.
“Nothing like a small idea, just change the dimension of look”
Estee Lauder is one leading company in beauty and body care products across the globe. When the company started, it just made a few perfumes locally and sold them in a few chain stores across the streets. Years later, the company is a global player in terms of beauty products. They started somewhere small. Walt Disney, the founder of the Disneyland animation and Media Company had a humble imagination as his beginning. As a father, with a wife and two children, Disney found himself wondering how to raise his family. In the process of wondering, children entertainment struck his head, the beginning was not however very promising, but he decided to embrace it anyway. Disneyland is now worth billion of U.S dollars. The story replicates itself with the likes of Apple, Microsoft, Panasonic and other big companies.
“For every big Company today, they started somewhere”
During the inception of some of the big Companies globally, the ideas might have looked “small” literally with many of the entrepreneurs wondering if their products will ever make it to the stores and finally shelves. These are feelings in every start up entrepreneur. Some people stop at this stage in their quest to venture into business, in other words, the feeling that their ideas (products) are small overpowers their ability to conquer that fear. It later becomes very bitter pill to swallow after someone else explores that idea persistently and with perseverance to make it a great success. To others, they embrace those ideas in their totality and later struggle with them through the potholes and hills on their success paths. With their non-giving up attitude, they finally succeed and are able to reap great returns.
“The difference between those who succeed and to who do not is how long they hold on to their struggles; their perseverance and persistence”
We are all born of a woman, the very reason why we should believe that we can go as far as others have gone. Lets us learn the principles of getting there. In life we should not try to do everything at the same time. We should not try to do all the things within the short time we have. The success lies in doing two three things in the best way possible. Greater success lies in doing one thing in the best way possible and like no one else. If it is selling detergents, sukuma, lawn dressing, interior designing, electronics repair, pet breeding or even cleaning; be the best like no other. At the end of the day you will agree that there is nothing like “small” idea in business. Above all, pray to the true God, through him comes the greatest success.
“The success lies in doing two three things in the best way possible. Greater success lies in doing one thing in the best way possible”
End.
