When is The Right Time?

If there is anything we have in plenty supply yet so finite is time. Time is finite subject to humanity because we have a duration tag. The definition of time as “the inevitable progression into the future with the passing of the present events into the past,” means we have a finite duration which are usually determined by a higher power. The most important time in a life of a human being is “now.” The past is gone, the future uncertain and the present moving rather very fast.

Recently while reading a book by Richard Carlos, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…and it’s all small stuff, I realized that our present is subject to our determination and control. Perhaps the only opportunity we have to augur the present to our good. In the book, Richard recommends that that we ask ourselves, “what about one hundred or two hundred years from today,” perhaps we get to realize that none of us will be there. At that moment, we inevitably come into an agreement that whatever happens now, today or any time prescribed “present” will not matter to us 100 years from now. Nobody will remember those small stuff. The present then profits if we sweat the big stuff; funny enough, there is no big stuff.

When is the right time?

Listening to a reporter asking Jonathan Medved about the secret behind the rising startup culture in Israel, Medved answered, “there is no secret.” Likewise, there is no right time. However, we are the makers of the right time. For instance, a week ago, I shared a talk with two elders about marriage. I asked them, “When is the right time to marry?” The answer was obvious, “There is no ideal time.”

They continued to inform me that though there is no ideal time, some indicators signal that it is time one took a step. For instance when your parents start inquiring if all your avenues are okay, it is time to take a step. When you realize you no longer enjoy cooking, washing and keeping your house in order, it is time perhaps time you considered to get somebody. Counseling psychology encourages literal playing with our kids while they are young. We can do that only when we are youthful enough.

Time is the most abundant yet wasted resource.

What about the right time to invest?

Know about the story of the entrepreneur behind Kentucky fried chicken? What about the story of Mark Zuckerberg? The two stories tell us that there is no right time to be an entrepreneur. Whereas the Kentucky fried chicken boss started to build his empire at old age, the Facebook founder started his at a young age. I also learnt that Warren Buffet did build much of his fortune when he was past the age fifty. Steve Jobs before hitting twenty five years, he was worth over 200 million dollars. The right time is simply the time we break off our cocoons and get out to face the turbulence. The day we get out of our comfort zones and hit the ocean wave zones is the right time.

There is no right time to send that right time to send that love note. The moment you feel your instincts pushing you to write to your loved ones a note, do it. That is the right time. We don’t know what will become of us tomorrow. The moment we want to repair broken relations, that is the right time. You never know what will become of the person you wronged. You never know what will become of you. Feeling the compelling urge to build the bridge right then, do it, that is the right time. You might end up living a guilty live knowing you never forgave your kin or friend and that they passed on suddenly.

In a nutshell, the right time is now. It doesn’t matter if you are old, it doesn’t matter if someone has told you that nothing good can come out of you. Remember, the lowly looked down upon city of Nazareth is where Jesus, the Christ was born. Live each day at the promise of now. Today, right at this moment, when you are reading this words is the right time to begin building your broken relations. It is the right time we begin to invest. It is the best time to start a family. It is the best time to be kind to somebody. In fact it’s the best time to be all you have wanted to be. Go for it.
