COMPETITION LETS US FIND OUR TRUE SELVES.

Once an Englishman found a certain man trying to woo his wife, instead of fighting, abusing or even cursing him to death, the man made a simple remark to his “friend” “man, lets us see who wins.” I keep wondering how many people can be able to make the same remarks. I like the attitude of this man though the answer might not be bad either. The husband has a lot of confidence that he will win the love and loyalty of her wife again; perhaps by changing the approach to romance, taking his role of proving for family serious than before and giving the love of his life more time than before if he thinks that that might be a point upon which he has not been doing well. This narrows down to helping the husband redefine who he is and find his true self.
A man stands outside his house on Monday enjoying an evening breeze; suddenly he sees a beautiful black Mercedes Benz approaching and follows it with the eyes. It crawls slowly and disappears into his neighbors’ compound. He has never seen the car anywhere around that compound and so he thinks that maybe a visitor has come to say hi. The next day the story is the same and for the rest of the week. On Friday, during a meal, the man talks lightly on how he has seen a never tiring visitor on their neighbors’ door for the past four days. The wife answers him sarcastically that the visitor is their neighbor. Five months later, this man buys a Toyota Caldina. Sociologists will call this social stratification, but in simple words, this is competition. Competition make people develop, it wakes people up onto hard realities that the world nowadays is like a moving bicycle and to keep moving one has to keep cycling. This was analogized by Albert Einstein and I get myself agreeing to it every time I read the quote.
Today you can walk to a supermarket to buy soap. At a glance you will see like ten bars of different brands of soap and all of them are looking appealing. Sometimes you get confused on which one to buy because even the prices do not differ, in fact some will have the same price. The products are simply competing against each other; the companies attached to the soap are also competing against each other. That is not enough; all products in that supermarket are competing for your meager or huge money. Making the right decision on what to buy or which brand to choose helps develop your planning and decision making techniques.
Games are hobbies throughout the world today. We sit down and spend a lot of time to watching and enjoying our favorite sports. What the teams or persons are usually doing is competing, trying to find the best of the best. Society has always taught us the value of being simply the best, you only know you are the best when you get off your comfort zone and get out there to face your equals or even those greater than you. Facing you equals helps you determine whether you are smart enough to outdo them while facing those smarter than you helps you sharpen your wit and tactic to get the ultimate crown. Competition helps us develop; it helps us add value to ourselves.
Competition is a powerful tool that keeps society going, it keeps society on the move, it also keeps the competitors- we the inhabitants- to grow and develop our niches. Without competition, who knows, we could still be in the forests wearing skin and eating wild fruits. Competition is as old as earth and will be as old the earth itself.
