The Grateful Enthusiasts.

Let us learn to be grateful for everything hoping that all happens for our own good. Photo Courtesy of iStock.

I asked the old nanny why she smiled,

Even after milking only one cup of milk,

with herself, the husband and the grandchildren,

All expecting to drink from that one cup.

Then she told me that she was happy,

Because her little kitten had milk to drink,

And her grandchildren looked forward,

Each to a sip of the milk,

And they were happy that way.

Then I met the man without a leg,

And when I expected him to whine,

And cry and be regretful,

That he had been born that way,

Only for him to smile broadly,

And tell me that he was happy that way.

But how? He had learnt to live that way,

And made everyday a day to be grateful,

That he had been born without a leg.

I could not talk of the woman who had lost her husband,

And she was grateful of that,

As well as the young lady who lost a job,

And gladly took the retrenchment letter,

Smiling all the way to the gate.

I then realized that,

In this life, we ought to be grateful,

In all situations whether they be good or bad,

Because that makes all the difference.
