Prof. Reuben Marwanga; The Man who Carries Nyamira County in His Heart.
Nyamira county seems to be set for prosperity in the next phase of the election cycle. The county, when compared to her Kisii counterpart, seems to be left slightly behind. And the reason for this lagging behind can only be equated to one component; leadership.
Prof. Marwanga believes that were the over 50 billion shillings received by the county in the past 2 election cycles since the devolution government took effect used well, then Nyamira county could be counted among the most prosperous counties in the county.
This gap in quality county administration is what this don seeks to close. Prof. Marwanga is an engineer by profession. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nairobi, a master of engineering in industrial engineering from the University of Sierra Leone, and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in the United States of America.
Having served as the Chairman of KENIA (Kenya Innovation Agency), dean at Strathmore University, as well as The Technical University of Kenya besides gaining international experience, Prof. Marwanga trusts that his international connection will be key in attracting international investments to Nyamira County.
Through the Marwanga foundation, he has been able to give bursaries and scholarships to needy students in Nyamira County worth millions of shillings. He believes that once he takes office, he will escalate the bursaries and scholarships to help as many students as possible.
His passion for education is in line with the take of Nelson Mandela about Education being the greatest tool that will change the world. Putting education among the top priority areas in his agenda means empowering the poorest of families and breaking the poverty chains.
The gubernatorial aspirant seeks to transform the healthcare of the county. In his tenure, he seeks to make Nyamira hospital a level 5 hospital. Uplifting the status of the hospital to the level of a referral means equipping it to offer high-quality healthcare.
Ensuring that people are healthy means making them productive. Healthcare has been a serious issue among the counties since it is a devolved function. Figuring out the healthcare issue can go a long way to ensure inclusivity and equity. And that will be achieved in Nyamira county under the leadership of Prof. Marwanga.
Agriculture, especially in the area of value addition, will see a huge transformation. Prof. Marwanga intends to make the farmer the primary and greatest earner in the value chain by rooting out middlemen who have for a long time been taking advantage of the farmer’s sweat.
Nyamira county, one of the two counties in the Gusii region is largely dependent on farming. Yet for any nation to prosper, the industrialization sector must be well developed. It thus means that once the agricultural industry will be developed in the value chain, the county will grow.
Value addition will open up myriad industries for the locals, minimize waste that arises from rotting and produce getting bad, increase county government collection and provide opportunities to the people. Given the fact that these things have been said several times before, it takes a passionate heart to make them happen; the passionate heart that Prof. Marwanga has.
The youth will not be left behind in his administration and so will women and people with special needs. As the world gobbles with the challenges of equality and equity, Prof. will ensure that Nyamira county will be at the forefront. Who won’t love to have such a leader?
County 046 has a man this time around whom they cannot ignore. A man they cannot get over. A man who carries their county in his heart. This is a man they cannot dare fail to give a chance. The future beckons Nyamira to come, will the county heed the call and walk the new path of prosperity?
It is all hope against hope that for sure they will heed the call.
