RAILA & KARUA vs RUTO & RIGATHI; THE LINES ARE DRAWN.

The long-awaited search for the two main presidential candidate’s deputies in the August election has come to an end. Kenya Kwanza was the first to announce the nomination of Mathira mp Rigathi Gachagua as the running mate on the 15th of May 2022.

Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga made a statement on Monday 16th May 2022 presenting to Kenyans his preferred deputy; Martha Karua. This means that the lines are now drawn for the August eight 2022 elections.

The most interesting thing is that the two candidates come from the central Kenya region showing how important the region is in defining Kenyan politics. In the Azimio coalition, Kalonzo Musyoka has carved the position of prime minister with the other contenders being positioned for the cabinet secretaries position.

The two teams can now embark on missions of selling their agendas to Kenyans in a bid to win their hearts so that they can occupy the highest office in the land. Central Kenya seems to be indispensable for any candidate eyeing the office of the president and is the very reason why a deputy had to come from that region by all means.

History made.

It is going down in the books of history that for the first time in this country, a woman has been nominated to the position of deputy president in an election. And should the Azimio duo win come August, it will be the first time Kenya will be having a first female president.

In that line, the country would join the likes of Tanzania in the region, the USA on a global scale, and many other countries globally that have had female leaders at the top offices of the President and deputy president. Another history that could be made is that a president came outside the two ethnic groups that have ever led this country; the Kalenjin and Gikuyu.

Should the Kenya Kwanza duo win, it will be a moment when the young generation will oust the old cream a second time to redefine the proverbial saying of the youth are the leaders of tomorrow. For now, it’s down to business for the two parties as they go hunting for the votes.

At the end of the day, what will matter is who won. The choice of a deputy presidential candidate plays a big role in who becomes a winner in an election. Yet, much more lies in the approach to soliciting votes from the electorate. And that will be the ultimate determinant of the winner in this year’s election.

I ask all Kenyans to exercise tolerance and peace during this period when campaigns are getting heated and tough. remember that elections come and go but Kenya is here to stay. Let us embrace our identity as Kenyans and may the best team win.
