The Dennis Itumbi and Jacque Maribe Moment; Some Good Lessons to Learn.

There has been a Dennis Itumbi and Jacque Maribe moment throughout the Jowie-Jacque case in which the two were accused of the murder of Monica Kimani. At the time of the incident a few years ago, the two co-accused were in a more than camaraderie relationship. They were romantically involved, a thing, perhaps, Jacque has lived to regret.
From the very beginning of the trial, the duo seemed to have developed some ‘kind of bad blood’ between them. In the docks, they often looked like two bulls ready for a fight. I cannot state with certainty that that was the case even behind the cameras but when the Itumbi factor came into the picture, everything seemed to point towards the theory that the canoe had been wrecked and subsequently capsized.
So, Dennis Itumbi has been a constant figure in Jacque’s court appearances. He has always portrayed the proverbial loyal friend to count on come rain or sunshine. And Kenyans have been treated to the warm embraces between the two in the corridors of justice who hitherto have kept to the fact that theirs is a mutual friendship of trust and support.
This true camaraderie, in their words, is something worth reckoning. For a moment, how many of us have trustable friends who can stand with us through adversity as though it were merry? If anything we see on screen is a replica behind the cameras, I applaud Dennis Itumbi on this one. And I mean this specific case.
The man has been in constant solidarity with Jacque. Today the 9th of February, 2024 will perhaps remain memorable in Maribe’s mind for her acquittal in the murder case. I don’t know if she will always remember Itumbi and the many more people who stood with her as well, but I challenge her to do so.
I will also advise her to learn from this case. The lessons to pick are limitless. Jacque should learn or should have learned by now about the mess one wrong association can cause. Much as it is her rallying call, it is for all of us too to be sober about all that relates and associates with us and our environment all the time.
In the Steve Covey theory, we should all be able to execute our proper management and judgement on our circle of control since we can do something about it. We can save ourselves misery by doing well on this. We control where we go, who we associate with, what we say et cetera. Done right, these decisions can save us a lot of problems.
The same could be said of our circle of influence though we might have no control over the outcomes in this case, but at least we have some influence over them. In the circle of concern where we don’t have any influence on the outcomes whatsoever, we need to train ourselves to make the right judgements. To Maribe, I hope this experience has added to her nuggets of wisdom in this matter.

Word of caution though, that let it be on the principle that the association between Itumbi and Maribe we have been seeing on camera is what they purport it to be. Otherwise, Dennis might end up fetching water and firewood on Jacque’s wedding day – adage wisdom applied.
Let me repeat, from what we have been seeing, congratulations to the duo. Sounds more like it was their win and less of her (Jacque) win per se. Jowie, who was found guilty of Monica’s murder, has had his world change in a moment.
As he awaits his sentencing next month, we can hope that justice has been served and that he too has learnt some lessons. Life is precious, and even a weak or limping system cannot be scorned. Limping does not mean death.
As the joke goes for the girls, if it is not an Itumbi calibre, no, thank you. Dennis Itumbi is about to become a Cupid consultant now. Pun intended.
